Isabel Schukat

Astudent at Corrib Dance Academy for 14 years where she trained in ballet and modern dance. During this time, completed all of my RAD grade exams, as well as the Intermediate and Advanced Foundation vocational exams and took part in many school performances in the Town Hall Theatre. These shows were always the highlight of my year. She also worked as a class assistant in CDA for 2 years. During this time, Isabel realised that teaching dance brought as much joy as just as dancing.

Isabel joined Youth Ballet West in 2020. My time as a youth member taught me so much; teamwork, professionalism and how to choreograph. Dancing with the company every week, she appreciated the special bond it created between me and the other dancers. Over the 5 years of her membership, she performed in Culture Night, garden festivals, The Nutcracker, Swan Lake and many contemporary productions. Helping to create new contemporary ballet material for these productions was a really rewarding experience. The highlight of my final year in YBW was becoming a youth leader. This not only helped me learn how to lead and support others, it also allowed me to reconnect with my love of teaching dance.

Now as a college student, Isabel is am a member of the University of Galway dance society. Part of the contemporary dance Intervarsity team, with training twice a week. ‘It is a very supportive community, and I am very glad to be part of it. For as long as I can remember, dancing has been one of my favourite things in the world. I look forward to playing my part in inspiring the next generation of young dancers.’
